Can anyone explain the difference between an 'official' taxi and one that you hail directly on the street? When we were walking back to our hotel one evening, a driver doubled the price when we asked him to take us there. Is this normal, or should we avoid such taxis? Which taxis do you use?

We moved here in 2019 and, sometime afterwards, I read about GetTransfer in a magazine and decided to give it a try. It's actually very convenient.I once called a taxi here https://gettransfer.com/en/directions/croatia/dubrovnik for my mother and the fare was only about 5 euros. She said that the driver was very polite.It's also good that you can see the price in advance. I don't know about others, but I find it much more convenient.
